How to Apply SSS Salary Loan Online

A woman using computer to apply for SSS Salary Loan Online

Who would not want to avoid traffic and long queues? As a Call Center Agent who does not have the luxury of time, I always prefer the fastest and most convenient way when working something. If I can do it online, then I would rather hit the keyboard immediately.

It all started when I planned to resign from work and start a small business. I had thought of all possible avenues where to get additional capital for my business and I happened to share my dilemma with my good friend and colleague.

Fortunately, my friend once tried to access the SSS website. She taught me how to use it and suggested applying for a Salary Loan online.

As a working wife and a mom-to-be, I thought of sharing these things to help those who reside outside the city and need to travel hours from their places just to avail of this kind of opportunity.

I have noted here the process on how to apply for SSS salary loans online without going through the wearisome long queue. Just make sure that you already have an SSS online account.

But before we discuss the steps on how you can apply for a salary loan online, let us first check the requirements.

SSS Salary Loan Eligibility Requirements

You might be thinking of applying for SSS salary loan but wondering if you are eligible. Indeed, there are eligibility requirements when it comes to SSS salary loans. Our SSS membership does not automatically entitle us to this kind of privilege.

I once availed of the salary loan, thus, I want to share some inputs about SSS salary loan eligibility requirements. Here are the guidelines to know if you are eligible to apply for SSS salary loan.

1. Must have 6 posted contributions for the last 12 months

To be eligible for a salary loan, a member must have at least six (6) posted monthly contributions for the last 12 months prior to the month of filing of the application.

This means that the member must have paid at least 6 monthly contributions within 1 year before the month of the loan application.

2. Must have paid equivalent to 3 years of contribution

The member must also have paid a total of 36 monthly contributions which is equivalent to 3 years of contribution before he can avail of the salary loan. It does not have to be paid continuously.

As long as the member has total paid contributions of 36 months, then, he can proceed with the salary loan application.

3. Must be under the age of 65

Furthermore, the member-borrower must be under sixty-five (65) years of age at the time of application (SSC Res. No. 434 dated 09 November 2005), has not been granted final benefit (total permanent disability, retirement, and death), and has not been disqualified due to fraud committed against the SSS

I suggest you check the full requirements of salary loan eligibility before you click the apply button on the SSS website.

Salary Loan Online Application: Step-by-step Guide

We can now apply for SSS salary loans online anytime and anywhere with our mobile phone or portable computer as long as we have an Internet connection.

We can do it at home or we can go to an internet café. We just have to make sure we log out when accessing our SSS account at the internet café to avoid a data breach.

This new service is available to all SSS members whether employed, self-employed, or voluntary member.

Step 1

Go to the same website as mentioned above which is https://sss.gov.ph/. Let's assume that you already have registered online. Log in with your User ID and Password.

Step 2

Once you've logged in, it will then route you to your My.SSS account. You will then see menus like Home, Member's Profile, E-Services, and PRN.

Since the purpose is to apply for a Salary Loan, then, hover your mouse over the "E-SERVICES" menu which will then show the option "Apply for Salary Loan".

Click on it to see if you are eligible to apply for a loan. There must be 6 monthly contributions posted for the last 12 months prior to the month of filing the application.

Step 3

Click the "I agree to the Terms and Service" box. I suggest that you also read it to be sure that you do understand the conditions of your loan application.

Then, click on the "Proceed" command button below on it.

Step 4

You will then see the electronic version of the loan statement which will show you the schedule of payment, monthly amortization, loan interest, and other important information.

Click on the "Submit" button below the loan statement to finalize your application.

A final disclosure statement will then be generated once the application is approved.

You will receive a notification from SSS regarding your application through email, so, you must check it from time to time.

So, that’s it. It is so easy and fast, right? I was able to make it and I believe you can too.

By the way, for employed members, your salary loan application still requires your employer’s approval. Your employer must have an online account too for them to be able to know your online application.

You can inquire with your employer if they do have SSS online access before you create your online account just to be sure you are not wasting your time and effort.

This online service, however, is not available for those previously employed members who have not changed their membership status with SSS.

As I have stated above, the online salary loan application requires approval from the employer. So, if your membership status is still employed, the system will route the information to your previous employer to provide notification about your application.

To avail of the online service as an individual member, you have to change your membership status first from employed to voluntary.

Voluntary means you will now be paying your SSS monthly contributions out of your own pocket. This Voluntary Membership is only available for those who are separated from employment, for OFWs and non-working spouses.

Previously employed individuals cannot change their membership status from employed to self-employed although they engage in a business or online job after being employed. I don’t know why, but that’s how SSS categorized its members.

Best of luck with your salary loan application! If you have further questions, don’t hesitate to put them in the comments section below.

How to Apply for SSS Salary Loan as a Voluntary Member at the Office

The salary loan application process at the SSS office is not really complicated.

It is just that, it could consume much of our time, especially if we have to fall in line and wait for our turn.

But for someone who is in need, anything is worth taking, right?

I actually applied for a salary loan online, but it was not approved due to the reason that my previous employer did not approve my loan application.

I already resigned from work when I applied for a salary loan online but my membership status was still “employed”, thus, my loan application needed an employer’s approval.

I already knew that my application would be rejected but I pushed through the process to know the outcome.

And yes, it was rejected and that was why I went to the SSS office to apply for a salary loan application since there is no option in the SSS portal to change the membership status to be able to utilize the service available for self-employed and voluntary members.

By the way, employers are given a timeframe to respond and approve the salary loan application. Even if they have not responded yet, but the timeframe has passed, the online loan application will still be rejected.

So, I advise that you also notify your employer about your online loan application, just so they will know and make the appropriate action.

It could have been more convenient for me if my online salary loan application was approved. Since there are issues I cannot fix online like changing my membership status, I decided to go to the SSS office.

Here are the things I did at the SSS office to apply for a salary loan as a voluntary member.

Inquire to the SSS Staff

I immediately look for the receptionist the moment I enter the SSS building to inquire how to apply for a loan as a self-employed member.

I did not know about Voluntary Membership at that time which is why I inquired about Self-Employed Membership. I was told to go to the public assistance desk first to verify if I can avail of the salary loan though I had stopped working.

It was then time I was advised to change my membership status by paying first as a voluntary member before I can apply for the salary loan.

A previously employed member can continue to pay monthly contributions as a voluntary member to further avail of SSS benefits.

I resigned from work last November 2017 and I personally file my loan application last March 2018 which means that there are no contributions paid and posted from December 2017 to March 2018.

Since I was told to pay first as a voluntary member to be able to avail of the salary loan, I decided to pay for January to March 2018. Good thing that self-employed and voluntary members do not have to pay the contributions monthly, but can pay quarterly or every three months.

Get a PRN

I really wanted to avail of the salary loan for our carwash business, thus, I decided to pay for the unpaid months.

I immediately went to another desk to get a Payment Reference Number (PRN) to be used in paying the teller.

PRN is to be used when making payments of contributions for instant notification and posting of contributions. You can actually get your own PRN via the SSS website.

While getting the PRN, I was asked what months I would be paying. I opted to pay for 3 months and also opted for a lower premium at the time. I was also advised to go to the express lane after paying to verify my loan eligibility.

Verify Your Loan Eligibility

After paying the teller, I got priority # for Express Lane. When it was my turn, I was informed that I am eligible to apply for a salary loan with a certain amount.

Take Advantage of SSS Priority Lane

I immediately filled up the Loan Application Form to submit to the loan officer. I noticed that there were a lot of people falling in line for loan applications.

I was pregnant, so, I immediately went to the priority lane which is for pregnant women, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens.

I passed my loan application form to the priority lane attendant where I was given the loan disclosure form. I was then told to get an ATM card which will be used for loan release.

Process Bank Account For Loan Disbursement

I went to the UnionBank kiosk to get ATM application form and a priority number. I filled up the form while waiting for my turn.

When called, I was then given the UnionBank e-pay card together with its pin code and was told to wait after 10 working days to receive the borrowed amount through ATM.

I submitted photocopies of the front of the ATM Card and my ID to the e-pay card attendant and finally submitted the loan application form to the loan department for processing.

So, that was it. I was able to receive my loan disbursement through my Unionbank ATM Card. Nothing is really complicated for someone who needs and determined.

My application was somehow different from others as I had to change my membership status but the process is actually the same. All SSS members who wish to apply for a salary loan need to submit the salary loan application form.

The only difference is that employed members have to go through their employers who will, in turn, process their loan application. As for self-employed and voluntary members, we have to personally file the application at the nearest SSS branch.

We just have to submit the application form and show our SSS ID or any valid ID.

I hope my story inspires you to personally file your salary loan application. If you have further questions, don’t hesitate to post in the comments section below and I will try to get back to you as soon as I can.

Loan Description and Terms

Here are some of the terms you might want to know that are related to the SSS salary loans.

1. One-month salary loan

A one-month salary loan is proportional to the average of the latest MSC of the member within the 12 months prior to application and is payable for 2 years.

2. Two-month salary loan

A two-month salary loan is equivalent to twice the average of the latest MSC of the member within the 12 months prior to application and is also payable for 2 years.

3. Interest

The loan interest will be 10% per year until fully paid by the member. The first year's interest will be deducted ahead of time from the loanable amount but the second year's interest will be added to the monthly amortization.

In case the member was not able to pay the monthly amortization on the specified due date, the loan amortization shall have a 1% penalty per month.

4. Service Fee

There is also a 1% service fee deducted from the loanable amount of the member during the disbursement.

5. Loan Renewal

The salary loan can be renewed only after the prescribed loan term which is 2 years.

6. Amortization Payment Process

Self-employed and voluntary members can pay the monthly amortizations to the SSS office or to any authorized SSS payment partners on or before the 10th day of the 3rd month from the month the loan was released.

Employed members' monthly amortizations will be paid through their employers. The employers will start the salary deduction of their employee-borrower in the second month from the month the loan was released.

The employers will, in turn, pay the remittances to any SSS branch or SSS payment partners still on or before the 10th day of the applicable months.

If the member-borrower got a new employer or a new job, it is his/her duty to inform the employer about his SSS obligations, so the new employer can deduct the amortizations from his/her monthly salary.

In case of death, all the amortizations, interests, and penalties will be deducted from the benefit the primary beneficiaries will receive.

If you have further questions, don't hesitate to put them in the comment sections below, and will try to get back to you as soon as we can.
